Biography

Born on January 21, 1951. After graduating from secondary school in 1968, he entered the Faculty of Physics at Lviv University, where he completed his studies in 1973. From 1973 to 1975, he served in the military as a commander of an anti-aircraft battery.

From 1975 to August 1990, he worked as a research associate and lecturer at the Faculty of Physics of Lviv University.

In 1989, he defended his PhD thesis entitled “Structure, Secondary Emission Properties, and Electrical Conductivity of Magnesium Oxide Films.” He developed thin-film deposition technologies protected by four inventor’s certificates. He was the first at the Faculty of Physics to conduct surface elemental composition studies using Auger Electron Spectroscopy. Using electron microscopy and mass spectrometry, he investigated radiation resistance and radiolysis of ionic compounds. Studies of secondary emission properties and electrical conductivity of the fabricated films enabled the development of memory elements for cathode-ray tubes, and the research results were implemented in industrial production.

Since September 1990, he has been working as an Associate Professor at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, continuing active research. Since 1994, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Theoretical Physics.

From 2012 to 2020, he served as an Associate Professor at the Department of Life Safety. In 2014, he completed professional training for higher education instructors in occupational safety at the State Enterprise “Main Training and Methodological Center of the State Mining Supervision of Ukraine” (Kyiv), Certificate No. 112-14-27.

Since September 2020, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
From September 2023 to December 2024, he worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Teaching Methodology.
Since January 2025, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

He has been awarded honorary certificates of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University in 2015, 2016, and 2021.

Scientific Output and Academic Activity

Based on his scientific work, more than 60 research articles have been published. Associate Professor O.P. Poplavskyi is the author of seven educational manuals. The textbooks “Fundamentals of Vector and Tensor Analysis,” “Structure, Elemental Composition, and Dissociation of Materials,” and “Fundamentals of Occupational Safety” are widely used by both students and researchers.

He is a member of the organizing committees of international conferences on Physics and Technology of Thin Films and Nanostructures.
